part of the problem here is that dana was probably never taught anything about the cuban missile crisis or viet nam or really anything after WWII...i certainly wasn’t taught anything that ‘modern’ in high school history (graduated in 1982) i went back to college at the age of 39 in 2001 - i had to take intro to us history - we barely made it to WWII! i have since been a teaching assistant for that class...no professor has managed to make it much past WWII, maybe into the 1950s...if you want post world war two history you have to actively seek it out and unless you are a history major its unlikely to happen.
