Roadblock Roundup for July 28

Roadblock Republicans are roped up.

But Joe Lieberman will be there...
Neither Ted Stevens (R-Alaska) nor Susan Collins (R-Maine) will be attending the Republican National Convention in St. Paul. It also appears that Gordon Smith (R-Oregon) will not show. Obviously, showing support for GOP presidential candidate John McCain is not a high priority for the embattled incumbents. So much for Republican solidarity.

Joe Lieberman applauds McCain's nomination in an otherwise empty convention center.

Which side is he on?
The extremely conservative Republican running for U.S. Senate in Louisiana, John Kennedy, is finding it hard to hide the fact that just four years ago he was an extremely liberal Democrat running for office.

A race funded by the big companies for the people
Roger Wicker (R-Mississippi) has raised over $500,000 from special interests, including nearly $88,000 from Big Oil & Gas, $90,000 from insurance companies, and $74,000 from lobbyists.

Do what I say, not what I do
Sen. John Sununu (R-New Hampshire) obstructs housing legislation and then complains that his own amendments are being ignored.

Inviting the king of Mordor to dinner
Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) will be having a fundraiser hosted by Karl Rove, despite the fact that Karl Rove refuses to testify before Congress about the politicization of the Justice Department because he believes himself to have the same "executive privilege" as the President, not to mention Rove's alleged role in outing CIA agent Valerie Plame and numerous other White House scandals.
